Whitefaced Woodland is one of the finest fibres from the hill breeds.
This is due mainly to the introduction of the Merino into the breed in the early 1800's.
A superb rarer breed for hand spinning and felting

You will receive the 100g (3.5 ounce) braid shown

Hand dyed using top quality commercially prepared dyes to ensure good light and colour fastness.

Frequently asked questions

What can I use this for?

You can use combed wool top forspinning smooth, strong, worsted-style yarns, for durable garments like sweaters and socks, as well as for wet felting and needle felting projects, creating items with defined shapes, thanks to its aligned fibers and softness, making it great for anything from next-to-skin wear to detailed craft projects.

Where is your fibre sourced?

The majority of my fibres are British and are mainly produced here in Yorkshire. Merino comesfrom South America, where no mulesing takes place.

What dyes do you use?

I use a range of different brands of 'acid' dyes. They are commercially prepared to give long lasting colour & light fastness whilst also being very low toxicity. The acid in the name is due to the water in the dye bath needing to be slightly acidic, so the dye absorbs into the fibres.

Can I knit with this?

Knitting with combed top has unfortunately become quite an online trend, those blankets look beautiful on Insta! However you don't see what they look like when they've been laying around for a while, or need washing. Combed top is not ready for knitting as it hasn't been spun into a strong stable yarn yet.

You can certainly have a go, but I sincerely do not recommend it. Come and learn to spin gorgeous yarn instead!
